Predator’s Song


The ancient me awoke        one morning
To find the beasts were birds
In that moment my thoughts flew
I knew each creature   to be
I framed them all beyond my window
I sang you followed me here   such a distance
sweet little birds so hurriedly
you made no waste           precious sparrow
I sat there wingless and
I was vibrating in solemn harmony
A tone a singularity              deafening
All the souls objected to that hour
Bayed me with desire to sleep
sing quietly
I could not hear those other living things
those birds on wing and perch vex and preen
So indiscriminately
I wonder if they hear my song beyond the noise
Oh how they sing for this small curious boy
Time waits for no man but a child has an
